An improvised tent is used as a school, a church and community house. It provides
education, hope and social skills to a 100 homeless children. The water used for
drinking has to be carried from the nearby polluted river, which makes the risk of
getting diseases such as cholera very big. Hinche was the place where the cholera
epidemic broke out in Haiti. We believe this project has a lot of potential
because it was started by local Haitians and will in the future be carried by them.
We want to support them by first providing a waterpump, to obtain clean
drinking water. In the future we want to acquire the land were the tent stands and
thinking about building a new communal building.
PROGRESS
In autumn 2014 Fonmo Haiti received a loan from Studio Hive Five to buy a piece of
land near the river for the installation of the waterpump for clean water. In January
2015 our partner let us know that they’ve found drinkable water that will provide the
whole community of drinkable water. We are happy to anounce that we have started
with the construction of the waterpump.
